Problem behaviours (drugs, alcohol, gambling) in North Belfast
Problem behaviours increase your risk of illness, social or personal problems and include the misuse of alcohol and drugs. Compulsive shopping, spending and gambling are other examples.
Is it taking over your life?
It started innocently enough and just got a bit out of control. Now you feel compelled to do it – it’s excessive, an ingrained habit that threatens your family life, job, health and personal life. The people closest to you may be asking you to get help. You might be worried about talking to your GP or being labelled.
Perhaps you’re spending all your money on gambling, secretly spending, playing online with credit cards when everyone else is in bed. You might even be putting your home at risk.
Maybe your life has moved on but you’re still using drugs and the destructive effects are taking their toll on your health and family life.
Perhaps you used to enjoy a sociable glass of wine or gin and tonic in the evening but now drink alcohol in secret or embarrass yourself at social occasions.
You can lose the compulsion
We’ll look at how the problem started and has changed or grown over time. We’ll look closely at the pattern of your behaviour, as well as your goals.
For example, do you want to stop drinking completely or just stop drinking at home? When do you drink? When don’t you drink? Would you go out or send your partner out to get wine if you didn’t have any alcohol in the house? Who buys it?
