If so, you’re probably suffering from insomnia – a really common sleep problem. It affects your energy, mood and ability to function.
When someone contacts me for help with sleep I always do my best to fit them in quickly.
I’ve suffered bouts of sleeplessness. Eventually getting to sleep about 4am only to have the alarm clock rudely wake me a few hours later. So I know what it’s like to need help right NOW!
What causes insomnia?
Stress, anxiety and tension play a role in up to 80% of insomnia cases.
The causes can include physical conditions, psychological conditions (such as depression or anxiety) or a combination of both. The good news is hypnotherapy can help with anxiety and depression too.
In my experience client’s often suffer from insomnia as a symptom of anxiety or have developed sleep issues during periods of stress. After the issues were resolved the sleeplessness persisted – in one case for 25 years!
If you’re suffering from insomnia as well as depression or anxiety I’ll treat your insomnia first. Once you’re getting a good night’s sleep you’ll be more able to cope.
Long term consequences
The consequences are more far reaching that feeling tired and grumpy – regular poor sleep shortens your life expectancy.
Chronic insomnia can contribute to health problems such as obesity, heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes.
Most people experience problems with sleep in their life. In fact, it’s thought that a third of us will have episodes of insomnia at some point.
The science bit
Evidence suggests relaxation results in people rating their sleep as most restful. Hypnosis and relaxation procedures are of proven benefit for insomnia.
The good news
The great news is it doesn’t have to be like this. The majority of insomnia sufferers are benefit from being highly motivated clients and following advice.

Patterns of sleep disturbance can become embedded . I’ll teach you the foundation of sleep – how to deeply relax.
First we’ll do a simple sleep/lifestyle audit and look at sleep hygiene – a set of guidelines to advance your ability to sleep.
You’ll learn easy, practical techniques to:
– quieten your mind
– manage / stop the thoughts that drive anxiety around sleep
– use your routine to aid sleep
– develop habits to help you get to sleep
– learn to return to sleep if you wake.
How many sessions?
How long it takes will depend on your needs and situation.
Following the session you will be given a CD or sent an MP3 that you will listen to each night to aid sleep.
