High blood pressure (hypertension) in North Belfast

Blood pressure is the force of blood against your artery walls as your heart pumps blood through your body. If you suffer from hypertension the force of blood is stronger than it normally should be.

Hypnotherapy can be used to treat essential hypertension (also known as primary hypertension) – i.e. high blood pressure which doesn’t have a known secondary cause, such as kidney disease.

The higher your blood pressure, the harder your heart has to work. Damage to your arteries, blood vessels, and heart muscle can be caused, leading to:

  • atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries which can lead to a heart attack)
  • stroke
  • heart attack
  • heart failure
  • eye damage
  • kidney damage.

What causes high blood pressure?

There’s no clear medical cause. However, diet, stress, and being overweight may increase your risks of developing essential hypertension.

The science bit

There are impressive studies showing the effectiveness of hypnosis in treating hypertension and helping to lower blood pressure.

There is evidence hypnosis can be used to move blood into other parts of the body or even to control bleeding. When using a pain relief technique called glove anaesthesia the hand is noticeably paler as the blood drains away.
